Plate Up Your Christmas Meal on Stunning Earthly Tablewares from The Good Plate

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

Having worked for the past decade with some of the country’s best chefs and restaurants, Ilona Topolcsanyi, the co-founder of Melbourne-based ceramic studio Cone11, created The Good Plate, in partnership with Bendigo Pottery, a unique contemporary reinterpretation of classic tableware with earthly tones to reflect the seasons and create the perfect base for delicious meals.

“I saw an opportunity to use my knowledge and experience as a studio potter to develop an affordable, distinctly Australian tableware range of extremely high quality,” Ilona explains. This limited edition tableware is 100% Australian made using clay sourced from Axedale Victoria.

Working with Australia’s oldest studio Bendigo Pottery, Ilona has combined her Cone 11 Studio signature glaze surface and design techniques with textures and colours drawing on local landscapes and environments. With the current colour and texture ranging from muted and earthy with layered bronzes, greens, charcoals and soft whites.

Ilona wants every meal, however casual or ceremonious, to be worthy of the good plates, with variations released with the changing of seasons to keep the range fresh and echo the cycle of seasonal produce that becomes available to us all year round.

Having worked for the past decade with some of the country’s best chefs and restaurants including Dan Hunter from Brae Birregurra Vic, Joel Bickford Aria Sydney NSW, Josh Lopez from The Wolf East Brisbane QLD and Seth James, Wills Domain Margret River WA, Ilona wanted The Good Plate to sit harmoniously underneath Australian made meals from local cafes, bars, producers, growers, and artisans.

Representing a great cause, The Good Plate partnered with Scarf Community in Melbourne donating a percentage of all profits from The Good Plate toward the non-for-profit. Raising over $6000 for Scarf Community helping young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds get hands-on experience and real confidence to gain employment in the hospitality industry.
